Are You Posting Frequently Enough On LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is one of my favorite platforms for connecting with other career professionals. From former colleagues, school friends, potential clients or future employer partners, LinkedIn is the way I stay connected and networking with folks authentically and consistently.

Posting and engaging on LinkedIn is an important aspect of building a professional brand. So, here’s my question for you- Are you posting frequently enough on LinkedIn? Let’s find out.

LinkedIn Profile Strength

Before you get to posting, you should ensure your profile is strong enough that people actually want to connect with you. The last thing you want is people to be interested in you, they go to your profile and see no information and then ultimately leave without connecting.

LinkedIn does a very good (and persistent) job at telling you/prompting you on ways to strengthen your profile. You want to take the time to build a strong profile going beyond the basic elements. Be sure to add a unique banner image for example. Create a banner image on Canva or pick one that resonates with you from the free images LinkedIn provides.

Outside branding, make sure you have your experiences updated and filled in to the best of your ability. Another great place to job people’s attention is your Headline. Posting Original Content

Posting original content on LinkedIn can look a few different ways.

  1. Writing LinkedIn articles

  2. Creating a post on your own feed

  3. Responding to posts within your network

Writing LinkedIn articles is a great way to inform, educate or expand your thoughts and ideas in a longer content form. Such as this blog post for example. When you feel you have something to say that requires more than a simple caption, you may look into writing LinkedIn articles or creating video content.

Creating posts on your own feed is a pretty easy and simple way to engage your audience. You might reference one of your LinkedIn articles (or another piece of content such as this blog) in your post. You could create a poll and facilitate a dialogue amongst your connections. However you choose to post content, the main point here is getting folks engaged in your audience.

From here, you can demonstrate your industry expertise, show a softer skill such as empathy or perhaps just building a brand as a rockstar networker and professional. Whatever your goals are for LinkedIn, posting and engaging with your audience frequently is key.

Responding To Your Network

LinkedIn is a two-way street. As much as you are posting your own content, you should be responding and engaging with your network’s posts too. This not only shows that you are engaged with your audience but also gets your posts seen by second and third level connections too.

If you are a business owner for example, this can be a great way to promote your business and earn prospective leads. The best way to show you are an expert in your field is to demonstrate your expertise through workplace accomplishments and, you guessed it!, your professional brand.

How Often Should I Be Posting On LinkedIn?

So here we are- the crux of today’s article. How often should you be posting on LinkedIn? I suggest 20 times per month. And here is how I break it down for optimal reach and optimization.

  • Post 4 original Linked Articles you wrote between Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7-8 AM, 12 PM, and 5-6 PM EST.

  • Share 5 industry relevant articles from experts in your area.

  • Share 5 hot topics related to things happening in the news.

  • Share 6 posts from within your network and put your spin on the topic.

  • Post a total of 20 times a month!

The key to your posting is to diversify your content but keep your consistency. People love polls or ways to interact with your content so vary up your posting style to make use of interactive technology and hot topics people want to talk about.

As career professionals, we ALL have an opinion on things like work from home or bring your dog to work day. So put your spin on it and post it to your network for further conversation and connectivity and see what sparks fly!

And lastly, as I said before, LinkedIn is a two-way street, the above is what YOU should be posting. Outside your posts, try starting with 10 minutes a day dedicated to congratulating, engaging and supporting people in your network. The more you support others, the more they will support you!
